Egypt is a year-round destination, but because its geographic regions vary from the Mediterranean coastline of Alexandria to the arid southern desert of Upper Egypt, selecting the ideal season depends on your planned itinerary.
The Golden Travel Season: October to April
For classic sightseeing across Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and the Nile River, October through April is indisputably the prime period. During these months, daytime temperatures are pleasantly warm under cloudless blue skies, without the intense heat of high summer.
Autumn (October & November): Warm Days & Smooth Sailing
Autumn brings ideal conditions: Cairo averages 26°C (79°F), while Luxor and Aswan hover around 29°C (84°F). The Nile waters are calm, making this our top recommended period for photography and cultural tours.
Winter (December to February): Peak Sightseeing Season
Winter is Egypt’s most popular season. With comfortable temperatures between 20°C and 24°C, exploring the expansive ruins of Karnak and descending into the Valley of the Kings is delightful. Evenings can be cool, so a light sweater or jacket is recommended.
The Summer Months: Red Sea Paradise & Low-Season Perks
While Upper Egypt experiences hot temperatures in July and August, summer offers tremendous advantages: lower luxury hotel rates and uncrowded monuments. Furthermore, the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada, El Gouna, and Sharm El Sheikh are in their absolute prime, featuring crystal-clear waters, gentle breezes, and world-class scuba diving.
We are booked for late February 2026. How chilly does it actually get on the Nile sundeck at night?
In late February, evening temperatures on the river drop to around 12°C–14°C (54°F–57°F). A light fleece, cardigan, or stylish pashmina will keep you perfectly comfortable on deck while stargazing!
